First digital RACGP convocation closes in shareGP with a record 13 items received

In 2017 the RACGP received a record amount of 13 Convocation items submitted via shareGP. Members had the opportunity to read each submitted item, provide further commentary and direct questions to the Proposer and other interested members, resulting in a more engaging and transparent submission period. shareGP facilitated an improved Convocation process, encouraging productive health discussions and debate. The level of engagement by members throughout the 2017 Convocation was a fantastic result for the RACGP, helping identify important matters for general practice.

shareGP celebrates its first anniversary

One year after its launch, shareGP had large numbers of RACGP members collaborating and engaging with one another, nationwide. shareGP is a secure, private, online space for RACGP members to share collaborative content including blogs, papers and research, as well as search and connect with peers and participate in Q&A discussions.

RACGP supports MBS Review of urgent after-hours primary care services

The RACGP welcomed the MBS Review Taskforce report on urgent after‑hours primary care services, saying there is still work to be done to ensure Australian patients always receive high-quality after-hours care. RACGP President Dr Bastian Seidel said the RACGP supports the Taskforce findings that urgent after-hours Medicare items have been used to support the delivery of comparatively low-value medical care and do not always represent value for money for the taxpayer.

More than 2300 GPs and primary care professionals attend GP17 in Sydney

With unparalleled expertise in delivering high-quality education to GPs, the RACGP brought together GPs from around Australia to the new International Conference Centre (ICC) Sydney for four days of education, networking, fellowship and collegiality. Coinciding with the first year of the new Quality Improvement and Continuing Professional Development (QI&CPD) triennium (2017–19), GP17 – ‘General practice: The foundation of patient-centred care’ continued to deliver education of the highest quality, focusing on:better systems and data; education and research; health equity; high-quality care; sustainability and financial modelling.

RACGP launches ‘No one knows you like your GP’ community awareness campaign

The RACGP community awareness campaign highlights the value of general practice and the importance of education and learning gained through membership and association with the RACGP. The campaign comprises TV, cinema, radio, outdoor, digital and social media advertising.

Representing member interests and providing a strong voice for grassroots GPs is essential to the RACGP in ensuring general practice maintains its position as the central pillar of an effective primary healthcare system. The campaign is increasing awareness of the RACGP’s leadership and advocacy role for the profession and recognition of the RACGP and its members.

World Family Doctor Day #OurFamilyPractice campaign

In recognition of the important work carried out by GPs nationwide, the RACGP took to Twitter to celebrate World Family Doctor Day (WFDD) using the hashtag #OurFamilyPractice. The RACGP encouraged GPs to acknowledge their practice families, which include not only GPs but registrars, nurses, support staff and other healthcare services provided by the practice.

RACGP releases Self-care and mental health resources for general practitioners

Self-care and mental health resources for general practitioners was developed to increase members' awareness of available supports. The RACGP encourages all GPs to take care of their own physical, mental, emotional and social health, and to seek support when required.
